Youth Day
How can a bombastic street fighter, a wanton adulterer, a deceitful gossipmonger and a disrespectful son make it to heaven? Well, they can’t; that is, not without an Advocate. Not just some court-appointed lawyer, but the King of Counsel, the Illustrious Intercessor, the Great Defender. On this past Youth Day, the first of the year, Rammone Gardiner reminded us of our universal need to accept the free gift of God’s grace, and the important, or more appropriately, the essential role that Jesus’ death, resurrection and intercession on our behalf plays in our salvation. “An innocent man had to die so that guilty men might live,” he began. “Imagine that, the Great Judge of the world being judged by the world!” But it had to be so that the rebel, the skirt chaser, the slanderer, the ungrateful child – and, not to mention you and I – might live eternally. Ramonne’s remarks entitled “The Great Defender”, were preceded by an a capella rendition by the youth choir led by Duane Bullens and a forceful and stimulating charge by AY Leader (2008) Shenique Paul.
